Assignment 2
Map(in) Igualada

I ended up doing six casts in total. I brought two of them to the review to present. A lack of tables put them on the back burner however. I did like the way they turned out, though they were still a bit more model-like than I would have preferred, but that is the limitation of pink polystyrene I suppose. I didn't want to cut it in half very many times in case it just crumbled. It worked pretty well releasing the plaster at any rate.

These were the mappings presented in the review:
Two plaster casts

Wire drawing, from front, side, and bottom

Drawing model - cut & folded paper

Drawing model - axonometric studies

Pinned up work:

The review went well, strangely enough some of the things I felt the least effective were most appreciated. The wire drawing was my favorite, and was well received, but I liked my folded drawing more than my axonometrics, and they were said to be the least successful. One of the axonometric studies in particular was pointed out as more successful than most of the cut/folded studies. I think the drawing models were significant to me, because they were the first start at analyzing the area, and beginning to unravel information in order to map it, so while they were less appreciated, they laid the groundwork for all of the resulting maps. A couple of the folded drawings were pointed out as successful however, so they are still useful in the next phase of this project.
We were reminded of the idea of death, and to think about it. I think it's important to keep in mind but maybe not to put it at the forefront of the design. I thought that our professor's insight on seeing this project as a beginning, and not an end, was important to remember while designing.
We were given opportunities to identify what methods we had used to arrive at our answers, and mine was peeling + volumetrics, and I was asked to merge the two, and perhaps use my wire method to create volumes. There were many more methods covered by everyone's unique approaches to this assignment. I thought the review was very insightful and hope that it helps fuel the rest of the project.
